Scottish Gin Club - Biggar Gin - December 2019

The final gin to be featured in our Scottish Gin Club this year is Biggar Original Recipe Gin. We chose to feature Biggar during a winter month as we find it makes a mean gin and ginger ale (G&G) which is perfect for a cosy night in front of the fire! Find out more about the gin and the people behind it below.

The Biggar Gin Co.

Launched in spring 2018 by brothers Stuart and Euan McVicar, Biggar Gin is located at the bottom of Tinto Hill on the outskirts of Biggar in South Lanarkshire. After growing up in the town both brothers moved away from Biggar for education and work but have slowly migrated back to settle down.

The brand is based on a philosophy which centres around ‘Biggar Mentality’.

What is Biggar Mentality?

Biggar mentality is all about a small scale, rare, batch philosophy that reflects a passion, ambition and taste which is big. From the foot of the Tinto Hills local botanicals have inspired the McVicar brothers to think big. Biggar has always welcomed innovation while respecting its past. It punches above its weight. We hope you agree that Biggar Gin does too.

Biggar Gin Bottles

Biggar Original Recipe Gin

Crafted in small batches of 200, the gin combines some traditional and modern botanicals. On the nose, mellow, aromatic citrus with a hint of hedgerows marries with gentle spice. On the palate, smooth and initially sweet followed by an almost creamy juniper and citrus burst. To finish, complex but smooth spice cooled by notes of lavender and rounded out by woody cassia.

Each bottle is individually numbered by hand giving the batch and bottle number.

Recommended Serves

Biggar Gin is exceptionally versatile and we enjoy best as a G&G. Serve over chunks of ice, top up with ginger ale and garnish with a wedge of orange and/or a cinnamon stick.

If you prefer a traditional G&T then we highly recommend Cushiedoos Tonic and a ribbon of zesty orange peel.
