Scottish Gin Club - McLean's Something Clear Limited Edition Gin - August 2019
This month our Scottish Gin Club members are enjoying a very special limited edition gin from McLean's Gin. Launched in 2017 from their one bedroom flat in the southside of Glasgow, McLean's Gin have a range of 6 gins which are made by using a cold compund method with has been popular in gin production since the 17th century.
Their seventh gin saw their first venture into distilled gin and Something Clear was launched in June 2019.
With only 352 bottles ever being produced, Something Clear Gin is also the first in the McLean's 'Collectors Edition' series.

Something Clear Gin
The gin was created to celebrate the first anniversary of Colin & Jess and the recipe is loosely based on the Something Blue Gin (specially created for their wedding last year) with the addition of 3 further botanicals including hand-picked loquat leaf; the fruit of which Colin & Jess picked on the day of their engagement.
Something Clear is bottled at 50% ABV to reflect the equal partnership that marriage entails.
The bottle features a poem which was read at the wedding and, to mark the paper anniversary, the bottle has been hand wrapped in tissue paper. Each bottle is also numbered and has been signed by Colin, the 'Head Ginologist' at McLean's Gin.
Tasting Notes
Tasted neat the gin is bold, fruity and floral with a sweetness not normally associated with a London Dry style gin. However, it really comes to life when mixed as fresh orange and blackcurrant flavours give way to violet, vanilla and fresh herbs with a hint of cardamom to finish.

Perfect Serve
We think that Something Clear is best served over ice with a quality tonic and finished with fresh blackberries. However, it also pairs well with a Sicilian or Victorian Lemonade. It’s extremely versatile and should be enjoyed the way you want!
