McLean's Something Blue Gin - The Wedding Gin
Something old, something new, something borrowed & Something Blue...
If you're getting married or you're looking for an unusual wedding gift for a friend look no further than Something Blue Gin from McLean's Gin - the original wedding gin!
Originally crafted as a limited edition to celebrate the marriage of the makers Colin & Jessica in June 2018, there were only 150 bottles of Something Blue produced. The guests at the wedding were served up the gin to enjoy and bottles were sold to some of McLean's loyal customers so they could raise a glass on the big day!
However, the gin proved so popular and was so well received by wedding guests, customers and critics alike, Colin & Jess decided to release the gin permanently into their range on the 6th anniversary of they day they first met.
Something Blue marries Colin & Jessica's two favourite botanicals; the Tonka Bean and the Buchu Leaf.
Tonka Beans come from Central & South America (where Colin & Jess first travelled together) and resemble small raisins with the nose of vanilla, marzipan and caramel, with hints of freshly cut grass, clove and magnolia.
Buchu Leaves are native to Southern Africa and have an intriguing and invigorating fragrance with primary notes of blackcurrant, mint, mango and fresh, hand-rolled tobacco, with a herbal nuance.
These botanicals are then combined with 6 secret botanicals to produce the unusual, intriguing and exciting wedding gin. There are suggestions of summer fruits, mint, caramel and vanilla, supported by a fresh, herbaceous background. Juniper is present – however, it does not dominate – adding versatility and opening it up to people who may not be traditional gin lovers.
How Would You Serve Something Blue?
We would recommend Something Blue served over plenty of ice with 1 part gin to 2 parts tonic. We like Bon Accord Tonic Water as we find this allows the flavours of the gin shine through.
You'll notice when adding your tonic that the delicate blue complexion transforms to a subtle pink blush, adding to both the mystery and romance of McLean’s proudest creation.
To garnish, we'd suggest a slice of cucumber and a fresh mint leaf.
Each bottle of McLean's Gin is bottled, labelled and sealed individually by hand. The bottle comes with a blue and white lace label design which again ties in beautifully to the wedding theme.
About McLean's Gin
It is fitting that McLean's proudest creation is their wedding gin as the story of McLean's has centred around romance from the beginning.
McLean's Gin started life in 2017 in a 1.5m sq. living room cupboard aka the 'gin lab' in a one bedroom teneflat in the southside of Glasgow.
Colin had received a make your own gin kit from his future in-laws at Christmas but had not got around to using it until a couple of days before Valentine's Day when he realised he didn't have a gift for Jess and thought that some homemade gin would make the perfect gift. Jess loved the gin and this prompted Colin to experiment more with flavours and botanicals which led to the creation of what is now McLean's Signature Gin.
Commercial gin production began soon after in the 'gin lab' and took place until the McLean's moved to Strathaven, a village around 25 miles south of Glasgow, following the wedding in 2018. The gins are now produced in a much bigger 'gin lab' within their new house.
McLean's Gins are made using a cold compounding process which has been used in the production of gin since the 17th century.
