February Gin of the Month - Glaswegin Original Gin
This month, our gin club members are tasting the new Glaswegin Original Gin which was launched in December 2018. Since its launch just two months ago, it was been so popular that it is among the most popular gins in our bottleshop.
The Gin
Glaswegin is a contemporary gin that has been created to celebrate the City of Glasgow.
Despite Glasgow’s history and tradition for innovation, nobody had yet invented a truly Glaswegian gin and when the founder of Glaswegin found himself discussing the irony of Edinburgh Gin appearing in Glasgow bars one too many times, he knew it was time for Glasgow to have a truly overt Glasgow Gin.
The aim was to create a frank, no frills, yet distinctive gin, representative of its namesake.

Glaswegin is distilled using a combination of classic and contemporary botanicals including locally grown Scottish milk thistle, Italian juniper, Russian coriander, angelica, orange flower, chamomile flower, pink peppercorns & bay leaf to provide a smooth, fresh taste.
The Bottle
The minimalist bottle was designed by award-winning designer and Glasgow School of Art graduate, Paul Gray. Paul is known for producing exceptional work that not only delights clients and attracts awards - he’s also invited to exhibit at the Design Museum London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) and the V&A in London.
The Distillery
The makers of Glaswegin worked closely with Darran from Illicit Spirits and the gin is currently distilled and bottled by Darran in his distillery in converted railway arches in the Tradeston area of Glasgow. It was important to the founder that every element of Glaswegin reflected the city and the people that inspired it and the location of the distillery is crucial for two reasons. Firstly, it is a nod to Glasgow's industrial past and secondly, the founder of Glaswegin spent years staring at the spot where the distillery is when he waited on his bus home from school.
Planning is underway to create their very own Glaswegin Distillery while the brand establishes itself in the city, and beyond.
Perfect Serve
Best served over ice and so smooth it can be enjoyed with or without tonic and garnish. However, if serving as a long drink, mix with the tonic of your choice, a slice of apple and a bit of fresh mint. Works equally well with red or green apple.
