Scottish Gin Club - Honours Navy Strength Gin - September 2022

September’s Scottish Gin Club discovery gin is produced at Peebles Hydro Hotel by 1881 Distillery. This award-winning Scottish spirit is bottled at 57% and so-named to recognise the role of the Hydro as a military hospital during WWII.

The Gin

Despite its navy strength, Honours Gin is a smooth and refined spirit with a great depth of flavour. Notes of cardamom and citrus are well defined among the broad range of traditional botanicals. The overall palate is earthy with just a hint of spice running throughout.

In addition to core botanicals of juniper, grapefruit, angelica root, birch bark and cardamom, Honours Gin is produced with water drawn from the Shieldgreen spring – the private spring that previously fed the Hydro. The clarity and consistency of this water source contributes to the smooth and refined profile of Honours Gin.

Honours Gin is small batch produced in a 150L still nicknamed “Felicity” and the majority of all botanicals used in production are sourced from the grounds of the Hydro itself. With this and their private water source, Honours Navy Strength Gin is a true spring to spirit gin.

The Perfect Serve

Serve over ice, with a premium tonic, a swirl of fresh orange to garnish.

Tasting Notes

On the nose Honours Gin is earthy and spiced. To taste this is a smooth and juniper-led spirit. To finish the spirit is dry and lightly spiced.
