Johnsmas Gin is handcrafted by the multi award winning Orkney Gin Company and is inspired by the long, clear days of an Orcadian summer where the sun barely disappears below the horizon.

This time of year is steeped in traditional Orkney folklore and is marked by bonfires, festivals, and music.

Crafted using a combination of juniper berries and orange peel with locally picked seasonal botanicals including wild rose petals, bell heather and wild spearmint.

The gin is presented in a stoneware bottle that depicts an Orkney ‘Selkie’. The Selkies are mysterious, shape-shifting creatures of Orcadian legend. In the sea, they take the form of seals. On the land, they cast aside their sealskins and emerge as beautiful young men and women, mysterious and alluring.

Tasting Notes

Fragrant, fresh and light, a variety of seasonal botanicals are used to capture the clean and refreshing floral notes of an Orcadian summer.

The perfect serve

Enjoy as a classic G&T serving over ice with a wedge of citrus fruit such as lime or orange. Alternatively, garnish with a slice of fresh red apple.

Meet the maker

Made by Andrea and Gary, a husband and wife team from Burray in the archipelago of Orkney, the Orkney Gin Company started by making a range of handcrafted gins using the traditional cold compounding method. The process is labour intensive and the gin is produced in tiny micro-batches. Infusion is undertaken in stages, and constant, meticulous sampling for quality is carried out. Once the perfect balance has been achieved, the gin is blended, filtered and bottled. Hand labelling lends a personal finishing touch. The family has now opened a purpose built distillery beside their home which will allow them to experiment with and create distilled spirits.
