Tomatin Highland Scotch Whisky
Founded in 1897, Tomatin Distillery sits in the Highlands on the border with Speyside. The distillery is located beside the Alt-na-Frith burn which provides naturally soft water. In its peak, Tomatin had 23 active stills and was once the largest distillery in Scotland. However, during the whisky crisis in the 1980s 11 of the stills were dismantled. This forced the distillery into liquidation and it was bought by Takara Shuzo and Okara companies in 1986. Takara Shuzo bought out Okara in 1998 and now owns Tomatin outright. Today, Tomatin is one of the largest distilleries in the Highlands and divides the output between their own range as well as selling to other companies for blending.
