Storywood Tequila was born in two countries which have come together as one. It has the heart of Mexico with the soul of Scotland. Scottish chef and whisky lover Michael Ballantyne was born in Scotland but moved to Texas when he was 8 before returning aged 22. Since then Michael found himself working in the oil & gas industry but wasn't happy with what he was doing. He started spending more and more time in Mexico to visit his mother and dreamt about opening a whisky bar in San Miguel. His research led him to La Cofradia distillery in Jalisco, which has been producing and bottling Tequila for more than 50 years. There, he met master distiller Luis Trejo and the conversation led to the similarities between tequila and whisky production and was there a way to bring the two national drinks together. With Luis' skills creating the finest 100% agave liquid combined with Michael's knowledge and experience of oak ageing, the idea of ageing tequila in Scotch whisky casks was born. Together, Storywood has created some of the finest award-winning tequilas.
