The Fading Light from J. Gow is a pure single cask aged rum which is inspired by pirates and distilled just metres from the sea on a tiny island in Orkney.

Made entirely in Orkney, the rum has been aged in chestnut casks for an ultra-smooth and complex flavour. Chestnut was chosen as it is more porous than oak which means that the rum matures quicker. This is beneficial in a cold climate such as Orkney where'd you'd usually expect a slow maturation process.

Bottled at 43% ABV with no additional sugar or colouring.

The name comes from the glow of the sun that never truly sets in the summer, or the dying light of short winter days. Known locally as the grimleens, the eerie dusk in Orkney has inspired many tales of ghosts and spirits.

Tasting Notes

On the nose Fading Light has estery notes of dried fruits, vanilla, cream and spice. The palate is smooth and long with hints of nuts and spice on the finish.

The perfect serve

Perfect to enjoy straight or to sip over ice. Also works incredibly well with mango juice or as the base of a fruit cocktail.

Meet the maker

Based on Lamb Holm, a tiny island that is connected to mainland Orkney by the Churchill Barriers. At just 0.15 square miles, it may well be the smallest rum producing island in the world. The distillery sits metres away from the sea and the rums produced are inspired by pirates. The J. Gow name comes from the infamous Orkney pirate; John Gow. His short but violent career began in Amsterdam and ended in Orkney. He was imprisoned, tried and hung in London in June 1725.
