Opened in 2014, Kingsbarn Distillery is based in the Lowland region in the East Neuk of Fife, just a few miles outside St. Andrews. The Kingsbarns journey started in 2009 when Douglas Clement, a former golf caddy, realised that there was no nearby whisky distillery for the area's many tourists to visit so he decided to build one in a derelict farm building. Unfortunately, despite investments and grants, Clement fell short of the money need to make the distillery full operational. In 2013, the Wemyss family, owners of Wemyss Malts and linked to the site of Kingsbarns Distillery, bought the company keeping Clement on as a director. Within 18 months of selling, the distillery became operational and was opened to the public in December 2014
