J. Gow - Culverin White Rum is an unaged pure white rum, distilled just metres from the sea on a tiny island off Orkney.

Molasses are fermented to 9% over 5 days and distilled to 85% in a single pass in a 2000L pot still with rectification column. It is then slowly diluted to 50% ABV to create a lighter spirit which still offers plenty of flavour.

Named after a two tonne cannon adapted for use on the sea in the 16th century.

Tasting Notes

Fruity and green on the nose followed by fresh cotton, marshmallow, green apples and liquorice on the palate. Culverin packs a punch!

The perfect serve

Best served neat, with your favourite mixer or in cocktails. We highly recommend served over ice and topped with tonic or in a daiquiri.

Meet the maker

Based on Lamb Holm, a tiny island that is connected to mainland Orkney by the Churchill Barriers. At just 0.15 square miles, it may well be the smallest rum producing island in the world. The distillery sits metres away from the sea and the rums produced are inspired by pirates. The J. Gow name comes from the infamous Orkney pirate; John Gow. His short but violent career began in Amsterdam and ended in Orkney. He was imprisoned, tried and hung in London in June 1725.
