Rock Rose - Smoked Orange Gin is a Scottish gin with a zesty citrus burst with a delicious smoked tea undertone.

This special edition is a credit to the head distiller Craig who was set a challenge by owner Martin to take Rock Rose Gin into exploring an entirely different flavour profile, whilst remaining true to the distinctive notes of our original Scottish spirit.

Fine Lapsang Souchong tea delivers smoky notes to enhance zesty organic orange peel. Complemented by tangerine sage and lemon verbena from our geodome, this is a richly complex gin with a bright bonfire nose; a palate that wakes the taste buds.

Tasting Notes

On the nose subtle hints of smoke lie underneath zingy citrus notes. The clean pine smoke from Lapsang Souchong tea excites the tastebuds and, as it settles, a candied sweet orange rises through. The finish is long as the deep rich smoke lingers on the palate. The fresh citrus notes of lemon verbena and tangerine sage resolve into a sweetness on the back of the tongue.

The perfect serve

Craig, the Head Distiller, recommends serving the Smoked Orange Gin over ice and sipping slowly. For a longer drink, serve over ice with tonic, a twist of orange peel and sage.

Meet the maker

Dunnet Bay Distillers was launched by husband and wife team Martin and Claire Murray and is the most northerly distillery on the UK mainland. The couple had a dream to return to Caithness to start their own business together which can be traced back to their university days. They moved home from France, built their own house and distillery which opened in 2014. The first copper pot still, Elizabeth, was installed and the recipe for their first release - Rock Rose Gin - was perfected and released in August 2014. Dunnet Bay Distillers won the Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Gin Awards in 2019 and has picked up multiple awards for their gins and vodkas.
