McLean's Strathaven Hedgerow Gin is a limited edition London Dry gin which was born in lockdown and made exclusively using botanicals foraged within the 5 mile 'daily exercise' limit.

The 2020/2021 vintage of Strathaven Hedgerow features a total of 11 botanicals including Scots pine needles, gorse blossom, hawthorn berries, brambles and golden chanterelle mushrooms.

Around 1000 bottles will be produced annually with the profile changing slightly each year based on seasonal availability of botanicals and also Colin & Jess' growing knowledge of the local flora.

Tasting Notes

The Strathaven Hedgerow is light and clean on the nose with juniper backed up by soft fruits, pine resin, garden herbs and earthy notes. The palate is fuller of body than the nose with sweet summer berries, resinous conifer needles and woody angelica balanced perfectly. The finish showcases the sweeter, juicier botanicals with hints of juniper, earth and wood.

The perfect serve

Best served over ice with a either Mediterranean Tonic or Walter Gregor's Original Tonic. Garnish with citrus fruit (grapefruit or orange peel work best in our opinion) or a sprig of mint.

Meet the maker

McLean's Gin started life in 2017 in a 1.5m sq. living room cupboard aka the 'gin lab' in a one bedroom teneflat in the southside of Glasgow. Following the marriage of founders Colin & Jess McLean in June 2018, the gin is now being 'brought up' in Strathaven, a village around 25 miles south of Glasgow. McLean's Gins are made using a cold compounding process which has been used in the production of gin since the 17th century.
